in search of schools that can change the world

In Search of Schools That Can Change the World
What kinds of schools are needed by humankind if we are to enter century 22 with wisdom and courage? What role, if any, should school play to support a recovering ecosystem toward the successful evolution of a conscious, creative and innovative  human society?
Starting August 28,  the plan is to travel from Los Angeles to New York and back again visiting and reporting back to you my observations of a variety of schools throughout the US that are recognized as cutting edge, leaders in the field, as well as relatively unknowns that sometimes struggle. I will interview educators and students as well as regular folks about what they believe school is for. What worked for them. What did not. Is school even necessary? Is school “old school”?  What would your dream school look like, feel like, sound like, taste like, smell like?
This is not just about my child or your child or only about children growing up in the United States. This is about the world’s children. This is about the world.
Teachers, students, and anyone who went to school in their lifetime, will be the people who will bring this project to life. This project is about you. This project is about children. This project is about us. All of us.

There are some interesting schools to observe…and there are interesting ideas and thoughts that can come from blog followers right here on this page.
Like…do you remeber your first day of school? I remember mine painfully.. No sooner had the first grade teacher pried my clenched fingers off of my mom’s skirt and gotten me seated at my desk, I bolted out the door and down the street when she turned to write on the board. I was scared stiff and did not want to be there. I hated school at first. It smelled funny and I wanted my mom.
