It may be surprising to some but there are teachers out here who have never really “liked” school. The first bit is that it is compulsory, a have to. The second bit is that it is done by grouping people together by age and categorizing a list of things that people in that age group need to accomplish by a certain time. It has never felt authentic or realistic to me.
Personally, I have had a love-hate relationship with the institution from the very first day I encountered it and ran from the funny smelling desks and the crayons in a box….out the door down the hall and onto the sidewalk back to my house.

Home felt right. School never did fit quite right….the teacher at the front of the room droning on about sentence diagrams while I read Steinbeck novels cleverly hidden inside a grammar text held upright to appease and keep her from seeing my eyes. I was one of her best students she would say ….ah but she never really met me.

This piece was sent to us by a friend. It is thought provoking…
