Here Come the Bad Ass Teachers

Ultimately is people who make schools that can change the world

This education catastrophe is real and is afflicting students, families and educators all over the country. The public sector is the most radically afflicted but the reverberations and echoes are being felt everywhere….and trickling down into even preschool classrooms. Where attention to research, democratic principles and equity are needed, outmoded corporate model autocracy is being applied. Children are suffering greatly for it, and so are their teachers.

However..resistance to Race to the Top, Common Core, and unbridled standardized testing, is popping up all over the place, and especially in New York and the East…in a variety of forms. And here come the Bad Ass Teachers!(BATS)

Read what Mark Naison has to offer.

“An Education Catastrophe has descended upon the Nation’s public schools, while most of the public has been asleep. It is making our children hate school, our best teachers leave the profession, and is maximizing inequality in our schools and the larger society.”

UPDATE–more about Bad Ass Teachers

“This is for every teacher who refuses to be blamed for the failure of our society to erase poverty and inequality, and refuses to accept assessments, tests and evaluations imposed by those who have contempt for real teaching and learning….

Bad Ass Teachers Association

We’ve had enough. We are not your doormats. We are not your punching bags. We are some of the hardest working, most idealistic people in this country and we are not going to take it anymore. We are going to stand up for ourselves, and stand up for our students even if no organization really supports us. We are Badass. We are legion. And we will force the nation to hear our voice!”
